Lab Design

2012

This project was a competition for a new type of lab space. The client provided the team with an open floor plan containing only

circulation and mechanical spaces. The team was asked to re-imagine what a lab space is and how it is used. Collaboration was a consistent theme throughout the various schemes created.

The team concluded that lab spaces no longer demand the prime real estate next to windows. As a result of advances in technology, lab

technicians are spending less time at the lab bench and more time at their desks. This prompted a design that features more daylight for

the desk spaces and less for the labs. Flexible spaces and furniture ensure that the spaces will be adaptable to any future needs.
